Contracts Manager
The Role
As Contracts Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the planning, execution and successful completion of the project, ensuring delivery to the highest standards of safety, quality and operational excellence. You will lead multidisciplinary project teams, manage stakeholder relationships, oversee commercial performance and ensure all contractual obligations are met while driving project profitability and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Construction
- Lead development of project programmes, methodologies and contract submissions.
- Support tender and pre-construction activities alongside estimating and commercial teams.
- Manage project mobilisation, resource planning and preliminary expenditure.
- Chair project start-up and planning meetings.
- Oversee subcontract procurement schedules and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Participate in design team meetings and provide programme and technical input.
Project Delivery
- Lead all aspects of project execution including planning, risk management, commercial performance, design coordination and stakeholder management.
- Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements.
- Manage project teams and supply chain partners to deliver programme milestones.
- Coordinate consultant and subcontractor design activities, including BIM delivery where applicable.
- Monitor progress against programme and implement corrective actions where required.
- Maintain contractual compliance through effective documentation and communication.
- Prepare and present project reports, forecasts and Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
Commercial & Supply Chain Management
- Manage subcontractor selection, appointment and performance.
- Oversee project commercial controls and financial management.
- Work closely with Quantity Surveyors and site management teams.
- Review and approve expenditure and ensure effective cost control measures are maintained.
- Drive productivity and profitability across all project activities.
Project Close-Out
- Lead commissioning, handover and aftercare activities.
- Manage the resolution of defects and final completion processes.
- Support agreement of final accounts and contractual settlements.
- Capture lessons learned and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Conduct performance reviews and support the development of team members.
Candidate Requirements
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Construction, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience managing complex engineering or construction projects.
- Strong commercial awareness with experience managing project budgets and CVRs.
- Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors.
- IOSH Managing Safely qualification or equivalent.
- Temporary Works Coordinator and Excavation Safety training.
- Working knowledge of permits associated with live energy works.
- Experience relating to Working at Heights, Scaffolding and Lifting Operations.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and industry best practice.Desirable
- Chartered status or working towards chartership.
- Formal Contracts Management training.
- Experience developing and implementing Project Execution Plans (PEPs).
- Knowledge of Behavioural Safety, Root Cause Analysis and relevant construction regulations.
- Experience working on major infrastructure, energy or industrial projects.
