Local business is looking for a Payroll Officer to cover maternity leave. This role will be for 15 - 18 months as there will be an extended handover period leading in to the person leaving for maternity leave.

You must have good hands experience of running a payroll end to end. The key areas that my client is looking for is as follows:

  • Hands on experience of running an in house payroll
  • Experience of data interrogation using V Look-ups
  • Management reporting and understanding of the payroll
  • Various analysis
  • Comprehensive understanding of pensions
  • Linking payroll into the management accounts across many P&L's
  • Dealing with queries in a sensitive manner, sometimes directly with all staff members.

Here is a list of the duties for this role:

  1. Full understanding of the payroll process from start to finish with familiarity of current tax, NIC, SSP and family leave rates and application including RTI submissions to HMRC
  2. Processing the monthly payroll efficiently, accurately and on time with end to end controls
  3. Accurate reconciliation of payroll outputs including preparation of journals to the general ledger and delivering third party payments within relevant timescales
  4. A working knowledge of auto enrolment and defined contribution pension schemes
  5. A working knowledge of AOE’s, month end, year-end, PSA and P11D processes
  6. Familiar with time and attendance systems and processing hourly (via real time) paid with controls
  7. New Starter, Leaver & pay change calculations
  8. Various monthly inputs of bonuses, commission, guarantees, advances, overtime, basic hour adjustments, allowances, fuel deductions, loan deductions, company sick pay, statutory payments
  9. Submission of P46 Car details
  10. Pension calculations, submissions and reporting
  11. Superior working knowledge of Excel as high proportion of Management Information reporting through spreadsheets including data manipulation and analysis (vlookups)
  12. Managing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  13. Overseeing the time and attendance system and advising administrators and employees on their queries
  14. Attention to detail is paramount in all aspects of data capture as information may be used in HR related cases
  15. Assist in employee related matters and escalate accordingly
  16. Operate in a confidential and appropriate manner at all times
  17. Demonstrate appropriate service behaviours when dealing with colleagues and customers
  18. Technical understanding of payroll through systems with the ability to interrogate data efficiently
  19. Ability to challenge processes for improved efficiency and keep department up to date with legislative changes
  20. Excellent customer service, both spoken and written communication skills with experience of sharing information effectively, in a clear, concise and professional manner
